Webster – Zachary G. Gianaris, 89, entered eternal rest on the morning of Sunday April 6, 2025, surrounded by his loving son and care team, while in the comfort of his home.
Zach was born in New Britain, CT on September 25, 1935, son of the late George Gianaris and Angeliki (Perdikis) Vafiadis. Zach grew up working in the family’s restaurant, operating the cash register as a young child; he went on to study at the University of Western Ontario and Hartford University. While attending university, Zach was introduced to the love of his life by the local priest; together Zach and Barbara shared over sixty years of love and devotion. Zach served honorably in the U.S. Army.
After earning his degree, Zach began his work on the New York Stock Exchange, taking the train into the city every week. Early in Zach’s career, he moved to Mill Road in Dudley with his beloved wife and only son. While residing in Dudley, Zach served on the Planning and Zoning Board for several years. Zach was a stockbroker for several firms over the years, immediately prior to his retirement, working with Tucker-Anthony and Wells Fargo; he was also a Real Estate Broker in Massachusetts and Connecticut for many years.
Eventually, Zach’s tremendous success earned him the opportunity to design and build his dream home on Webster Lake. Zach loved lake life and would often be found out on one of his prized boats. Zach was one to pay it forward, he used his success to help others succeed and to support countless charitable organizations.
Zach was a faithful member and benefactor of the Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Webster, where he and his family would serve in a variety of ways throughout the decades. Zach was also a member of the A.H.E.P.A., Leadership 100, the Ancients, Scottish Rite Masonic Lodge, Webster Lions, the Shriners, and the Thompson Road Investment Club; he was also involved in countless philanthropic efforts throughout his lifetime.
Zach was always a clever and active person; he thoroughly enjoyed playing both golf and tennis, boating, and enjoying life on the Lake. Zach also enjoyed traveling and experiencing the best life had to offer.
Zach is survived by his loving son Zachary J. Gianaris of Webster; his brother Paul Gianaris of New Britain, CT; many cousins, relatives, friends, and his loving and devoted care team: Judy, Margaret, Maria, Robin, Paula, Barbara, Tracie and Lukas.
All are welcome to attend calling hours on Friday April 11, 2025 from 10:00 – 11:00 am, followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am in the Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 37 Lake Parkway Webster, MA. Private Committal Services with Military Honors will be held beside Zach’s beloved wife Barbara in Lakeside Cemetery.
