Francisco Olivencia Obituary

Worcester - Francisco Olivencia passed away at St. Francis Rehab and nursing home on February 13, 2018 in Worcester, MA after a strong battle against Stage 4 Glioblastoma. He fought until the very end and He was 70 years young. Mr. Olivencia was born on September 27, 1947 in Mayaguez Puerto Rico to his parents, Baldomero Olivencia and Rosa Crespo. He came over from the island to New York City when he was a child. He lived on the lower east side with his mother and siblings. It was there, at age 23 that he met Maria Gonzalez and married her in 1972. The Olivencia’s moved to Worcester, MA in 1977 where Francisco worked at St. Vincent’s Hospital as an orderly. Francisco also organized community basketball teams, volunteered at the local community center, and got involved in other community activities. He also dedicated his time to family and friends…even taking in many when they had nowhere else to go (many can attest to his mercy and love). The family also lived in the Bronx, NY for a time between 1983 through 1986. Francisco was generous, compassionate, and caring...to the point of neglecting his own needs for those of others. Later in his adult life, he worked and served at the Worcester Veteran’s Shelter as a case manager. He himself being an Army Veteran who fought in the Vietnam War and understood the toll that service took on veterans. He retired at age 60 from the shelter and then dedicated his time to Pleasant Street Baptist Church where not only was he a member but he was also staff…he was dedicated to helping people’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Mr. Olivencia was a patient and supportive father and grandfather with a passion for instilling strong values and morals in others. He loved to play games, hang out with people, go for long walks, ride his bike, garden, read the Bible, laugh (and he had a wonderful laugh), drink coffee, share meals, and just love people. His light would just shine everywhere and all who encountered him, walked away feeling loved and cared for. Mr. Olivencia is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Unity and Matthew Ostercamp of Chicago, IL; his son and future daughter in law, Francisco Olivencia II and Zaida Irizary; his siblings, Pedro Perez, Juan Olivencia, Valentina Montalvo, and Enrique Olivencia and five grandchildren: Xiomara Olivencia, Christopher Aponte, Francisco Olivencia III, Maria Olivencia, and Angelique Olivencia. His goddaughter Damaris Annibal and many other nieces and nephews also survive him. His wife Maria, his brother William Olivencia and his parents precede him in death. Due to his personal wishes, there will be no wake for Mr. Francisco Olivencia as he wished to be cremated. A Celebration/Memorial service will take place on Sunday February 18 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Street Baptist Church 165 Pleasant St, Worcester, MA 01609.
