Derek V. Thomas, 50

Worcester, MA - Derek V. Thomas, 50, of Worcester, passed away on Friday, October 7, 2016, at UMASS Memorial University Campus surrounded by his loving family. 

Derek is survived by his children Derek Thomas and Corinda Thomas and five step children Evelyn, Santa Maria, Abraham, Luis and Daniel; sisters Emma Thomas, Lisa Pardlow and Cherie Thomas; brothers Mario Thomas and Darren Dupree; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his older brother Mark L Thomas. 

Derek was born in Worcester, a son of the late Hessey Thomas Dupree and James Thomas. He graduated from North High School and attended Quinsigamond Community College. He worked as a machinist, a carpenter and loved making furniture. 

A Celebration of Life service for Derek will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016, at noon at Belmont A.M.E. Zion Church 55 Illinois St., Worcester. Burial will follow at Hope Cemetery, Worcester. A period of calling hours will be held prior to the service from 11:00 am until noon. GRAHAM PUTNAM & MAHONEY FUNERAL PARLORS, 838 Main St., Worcester is assisting the family with arrangements.
