Concord/Oxford – Mary Devens Nicholson, 63, passed away at the Sandlewood Center in Oxford, MA on September 8, 2018 after a cardiac illness.
Mary was born on April 20, 1955 in Concord to the late Admiral Irving H. and Mrs. Anne O. Chase; She grew up in Concord’s Fairhaven Hill and graduated in 1973 from Concord Academy. Mary had an avid interest in global political affairs as well as music and earned her bachelor’s degree from Wheaton College, Norton, MA in 1977. Twice married and divorced, she lived a tragic adult life plagued by mental illness, spending most of her life in institutional care, and yet despite her infirmity, she was unfailingly sweet, patient, and caring of others. Mary converted to Catholicism in her later years and drew strength from her devotion to the church;
She leaves her brothers Colonel Jonathan Chase of Carlisle, Kentucky, Warren Chase of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; Sisers Helen Trainor of Boynton Beach, Florida, her twin Lucy Osborne of Hull, MA, and a nephew and five nieces.
