Parsons, Shirley Wells

Of Worcester, formerly of East Falmouth and Watertown, Mass.  Died on August 23 at Knollwood Nursing Center after an illness, just short of her 92nd birthday.  Shirley was born on the family farm in Wallace Bay, Nova Scotia and retained her lifelong sense of identity and place nurtured there.  She was the daughter of Russell Hills Wells and Janet Gould Wells.  She was married for 50 years to the late Allan B. Parsons and never stopped missing him.  Devoted mother of Janet D. Parsons of Winchester, MA and Anne Parsons Marchant and her husband David of West Boylston, MA.  Much loved grandmother of Alissa and Haley Marchant and of Andrew and Eric Parsons.  She once commented that each of her grandchildren was completely amazing from the time they first drew breath.  Fond sister of both Gerald Wells and his wife Phyllis of Beaconsfield, Quebec, and of the late Howard, Russell, and Horace Wells.  Survived by 11 nieces and nephews.  Mom loved her roles of wife, mother, and grandmother.  We will miss her sharp wit, her irreverence, and her ability to knit, bake pies, and complete crossword puzzles using a pen.

A celebration of Shirley’s life will take place at a later date at Briarwood Retirement Community in Worcester.  Contributions in her honor may be made to the Waquoit Congregational Church, 15 Parsons Lane, Waquoit, MA  02536 and to the Briarwood Residents Assistance Fund, 65 Briarwood Circle, Worcester, MA  01606.
