Southbridge — Demetrula “Tillie” O’Brien, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 4, 2016 at the Meadows of Leicester. Tillie was born in Southbridge, MA on August 7, 1924 a daughter of the late Stavros and Athena (Lazar) Stefan. She was predeceased by her first husband Joseph P. Gliniecki who passed in 1984 and her second husband Clinton R. O’Brien who passed away in 1997. She was also predeceased by her only son William R. Gliniecki, her brother Socrates Stefan, her sisters Claire Vangel and Olympia “Limpy” Orlowski, and her brother-in-law Felix “Slippery” Orlowski. Tillie leaves behind her grandsons William R. Gliniecki and his companion Sarah Cazabon of Somerville and Joseph P. Gliniecki of Dudley, her granddaughters Heather Harriman and her husband Chris of Holland, MA and Amanda Gliniecki and her fiancé Simon Islam of Medford. She also leaves her three great granddaughters: Paige Gliniecki of Worcester, Abbey Cortis of Holland and Hannah French of Holland, her daughter-in-law Denise Gliniecki of Dudley, her nephew Peter A. Stefan of Worcester, and many other relatives and friends. Tillie was a proud member of Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Webster for many years and was an active choir member until 2011. She was also a member of one of the founding families of St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Southbridge where she and her sister Limpy sang in the first St. George Choir in 1935. Tillie adored her family and loved to spoil her grandchildren, especially her Joey. She also loved going to church and moreover the Sunday lunches with her friends and grandson after church. Tillie was a hardworking woman. She worked for many years at Hyde Manu f a c t u r i n g Company. She later went on to work at the Publick House of Sturbridge until her retirement in 2003. Tillie lost her only son William unexpectedly in 2003 and she was never the same after. She went on to push through the heartache and depended greatly on her daughter in law, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren, and her church family. Calling Hours for Tillie will be Sunday, November 6, 2016 from 5-8PM at Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 35 Lake Parkway Webster with a Trisagion Service at 7PM. Funeral Service will be Monday, November 7, 2016 at 10AM. Please meet directly at the Church. Committal will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Southbridge. In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Contributions in Tillie’s Memory may be made to: Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 713, Webster, MA 01570.
