Dudley – Athena “Dot” Cooney, 87, passed away at the Webster Manor on Sunday December 17, 2017, with her loving family and friends at her side.

 

She leaves behind her three children: Elaine Armstrong and her husband Barry of Dudley, Tim Cooney and his wife Penny of Oxford, and Donna Cooney of Dudley; six grandsons: Nicholas Cooney of Southbridge, Corey Cooney of Southbridge, Josh Bigelow of Oxford, Michael Bigelow of Oxford, Derrick Trahan of Oxford, and Tyler Trahan of Oxford; two granddaughters: Kelsey Armstrong of Dudley and Michelle Mitchell and her husband Dan of Dudley; three great grandchildren: Kaiden, Cody, and Alexandria; her brother Vasil “Bill” Condos and his wife Despina of Dudley; She also leaves many relatives and friends who will miss her very much; She was predeceased by her husband: Leo Cooney in 1975, and by her daughter Kathleen Cooney in 1993.

 

Dot was born in Webster, MA on June 22, 1930, daughter of the late Vay and Helen (Velarides) Condos; She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother; She was a devout member of the Sts. Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church for her entire life.  Dot served her church as a Sunday school teacher for many years, as well as singing in the church choir for most of her life; She was also very active with the Ladies Philoptochos Society and loved baking her favorite Greek cookies for her church, her family and friends.  Dot also enjoyed to knit and crochet; she was such a loving and thoughtful person who would always be making something beautiful with her own hands to give to those she came to know and love; She will truly be missed by all who were blessed to know her.  May her memory be eternal.

 

All are invited to attend calling hours on Tuesday December 19, 2017 from 5:00 – 8:00 pm, with a Trisagion Service at 5:00 pm at her beloved Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox, 35 Lake Parkway Webster, MA.  The funeral will be on Wednesday December 20, 2017 at 10:00 at the Church; Committal will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery in Webster.

 

In lieu of Flowers, Dot’s family asks that memorial contributions be sent to the Center of Hope or to the American Diabetes Association.
